Samantha of Savage Muse

September 15th, 2008 by Andreanna

Samantha’s style is very earthy mixed with modern. Alot of her items feature repurposed items combined with hemp to make a truly unique and green statement. So let’s see what she has to say

What…is your name?
Samantha McFadden. I’m a student at SAIC in Chicago, and in my free time I run Savage Muse.

What…do you make?
I make weird crust/hippie punk jewelry and trinkets - I use a lot of natural materials like hemp and leather, but also nuts, bolts, washers, random pieces of metal, skulls, and bones. It’s natural yet industrial, definately my style. You might remember Lauren Utter from cycle ten of America’s Next Top Model? If you look really hard you can see her wearing a distressed leather cuff and various hemp bracelets I created.
What… is your favorite color?

When it comes to my jewelry design I use dirty tones of tan and rust, black, grey, neutrals. I study painting in school, and you might be suprised to know that I paint almost exclusively in pastels.

What… is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? (Ok you really don’t have to answer this one.)

What … is your main influence?

Different cultural movements… the punks, beats, hippies. I used to hang around with traveling punk kids who always wore the same ripped-up, stitched-up clothes and improvised accessories made from roadkill carcasses. That aesthetic is really beautiful to me.
Where… is your shop?
My shop is on etsy: http://savagemuse.etsy.com and myspace: http://www.myspace.com/undead_riot.
